grief beauty
Grief is an inevitable and dreaded part of life but for something that is so unavoidable, the fact that its connotations are continually negative works as a disservice to everyone who has and will experience it. ‘grief beauty’ is a book that explores the beauty to be uncovered through grief. The words that feature in the book are to give the reader insight into what others have found; the white spaces that are left are for the reader to add, annotate and find their own.
The cover and feel and flow of the book had to embody grief and reflect beauty; the cover is made from recycled paper and has been distressed personifying grief to influence how the book is handled and treated. The words are designed to enhance their individual beauty and to reinforce the message behind the words. The paper inside the book is made up of an array of different types, colour, thickness and textures to symbolise all the different people whose words come together in the book and inspire others to contribute to the book. Grief is something we carry with us always, the book to be small enough to fit in a coat pocket or a handbag.
